The 130mph barrier will be broken during the Centenary TT according to outright lap record holder John McGuinness.

The 11-times winner around the Isle of Man believes, if conditions are right, his own lap record of 129.451mph could be shattered and the 130-barrier broken for the first time.

And McGuinness says he is the man to break the record.

The comments came after Morecambe’s McGuinness claimed the fastest-ever practice lap around the 37.73-mile circuit during Thursday evening’s Bennetts TT practice.

He recorded a 129.084mph lap.

Speaking to the BBC McGuinness said:

‘If the conditions are good, the 130mph lap will be broken.’
‘It is going to happen and I will just be concentrating on enjoying it.’
‘There is pressure, but once you put your helmet on it is me, the bike and the road - and it will take a good man to beat me.’

The final practice session is due to take place this evening with the first race, the Bennetts Superbike TT, tomorrow.
