TT's fastest woman to make Scarborough debut
Maria Costello, the fastest woman to lap the Isle of Man TT course, will be competing at England’s only road race, the Cock o the North at Scarborough’s Oliver’s Mount circuit for the first time this weekend.
Costello – who holds the Guinness World Record for being the fastest female around the daunting Mountain Circuit was the first woman in Manx history to stand on the podium as a solo racer – will be competing on her Bering and Black Horse Motorcycle Finance-sponsored Honda RVF400 for the first time this year.
She was due to compete on the RVF at this year’s North West 200, but was ruled out by the organisers, a decision she believes was unfair. That means Scarborough will be her first outing on the newly-acquired 400cc bike, and she will be in great company as the coveted Cock o the North attracts top road racers.
Guy Martin, who claimed three podium places at the Centenary TT, will join many other TT regulars at the Oliver’s Mount Circuit, including Ian Lougher.
Costello said:
‘I’m really looking forward to racing at Oliver’s Mount, especially after the disappointment of not competing at the NW200.’
‘I’ve wanted to race at Scarborough since being a spectator and watching David Jefferies win there, so this is going to be a special outing for me.’
She has tested the motorcycle at Kirkistown in Ireland and will have completed more testing prior to the Auto 66 Club event on Saturday and Sunday.
