TT winner Ian Hutchinson is set to make his British Superbike Championship debut.

He will take over Leon Camier’s ride for the next round of the series, at Donington later this month.

Camier suffered a dislocated knee, fractured left femur and fractured pelvis in a fall at Cadwell Park. His Bike Animal Honda CBR1000RR has now been handed to road racing expert Hutchinson.

At the Centenary Isle of Man TT earlier this year Hutchinson took his maiden win in the Supersport race, beating Mountain Circuit expert and 13-times winner John McGuinness.

It was a successful trip to the Isle of Man for Hutchinson – he secured third place finishes in the other three races he contested.

Hutchinson has also been running in the British Supersport Championship, but feels ready for the step up.

He said:

‘I feel honoured to have been given the opportunity by Bike Animal Honda to ride the Superbike.’
‘I am familiar with the bike as I have ridden it previously on the roads. I’m excited to be able to step up to the British Superbike class, and I am sure it will be a big learning curve for me competing against world-class talent.’
‘I hope we can come away with some good results at Donington Park.’

Managing director Robert Williams said:

‘We already have a strong relationship with Ian and we hope that he can prove that he has what it takes to make the next step up in his British Superbike career.’
‘We are obviously disappointed for Leon that he is unable to complete the season with us. However, we wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.’

Hutchinson will be replaced in the Supersport campaign by 27-year-old Steve Brogan.

There are two rounds of the British Superbike Championship remaining, Donington at the end of this month and Brands Hatch in mid-October.
