Major TT photo exhibition to open in London

A major exhibition of images from the TT will be unveiled in London in April.
At Monday evening’s official TT2008 launch party it was confirmed the exhibition from London’s Getty Images Gallery will also visit the Isle of Man during the TT.
The exhibition, which opens in London on April 10th, features photos from the Getty archives examining 100 years of TT racing.
There will be a chance to view some rarely-seen shots from Getty’s extensive archive.
Legendary motorsport commentator Murray Walker, OBE, who visited the Centenary TT and presents the DVD documentary TT: Centenary Celebration, has curated the exhibition.
His selection includes legendary TT heroes such as Stanley Woods, Geoff Duke, Giacomo Agostini and Mike Hailwood, as well as modern riders including David Jefferies, Steve Hislop and Joey Dunlop.
Notable moments in TT history will be represented, such as Bob McIntyre’s first 100mph lap and the days when the TT included car racing as part of the fledging European motor racing circuit.
The first motorcycle TT in 1907 and the record-breaking feats of John McGuinness and Dave Molyneux from the Centenary in 2007 are also included.
Race fans will also be able to see the original Keppel Gate and the old TT Grandstand which, despite their age, are still recognisable landmarks.

‘The exhibition has allowed us to exhibit material which has not previously been printed and make it available to a wider audience. This show captures the excitement, drama and passion of this incredible race.’
As well as featuring photographers from Getty Images, the exhibition also includes pictures from Pacemaker Press photographer Stephen Davison and Manxman Dave Collister of Photocycles.
It will also include shots from the TT archive run by Bill Snelling.
Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw, whose department was behind the initiative, said:
‘This is the definitive exhibition of TT images and will be of major interest to bike fans across the world.’
Murray Walker added:
‘In my view, the TT races are the greatest motorsport event in the world.’
‘The races have been an enormous part of my life from when my father raced in the 1930s through to the period when I commentated for the BBC.’
‘This exhibition brings back many incredible memories.’
