After the blazing sunshine enjoyed on Saturday for the Dainese Superbike TT and first Sure Mobile Sidecar TT, Monday is dry, but overcast in the Isle of Man.
There is low-lying cloud over the Mountain section of the famous TT course as the competitors, officials and fans get ready for the second day of racing at the 2008 TT festival.
It is hoped the cloud will lift and give way to another sunny day to allow both races to go ahead as scheduled, but a delay cannot be ruled out at the time of writing (8am 02/06/08).
If the races go ahead as scheduled, it will be the Scottish Life International Superstock TT that gets the action under way at 10.45am.
To allow the races to take place, the Mountain Road is due to close at 9.30am with the rest of the course closing at 10am.
The Superstock TT has been dominated by Kiwi Bruce Anstey in recent years and, after the Relentless by TAS Suzuki domination of the Dainese Superbike race, Anstey and teammate Cameron Donald are among the men to watch.
However, the first three away – Guy Martin, Conor Cummins and John McGuinness – will all be determined to make up for Saturday’s disappointment when mechanical problems forced them out of the Superbike race.
The field boasts such a strong entry, the four-lap Superstock race could be one of the most competitive in recent years.
After topping the Superstock practice times, TT winner Ryan Farquhar will be hoping his Harker Racing Kawasaki ZX10 will do the business. Gary Johnson, after a marvellous fourth on Saturday, will also be hoping for a good result, after setting the fifth fastest Superstock lap in practice.
If everything goes to schedule, the day’s second race – the first Relentless Supersport Junior TT of the week – will get under way at 1.15pm.
Last year’s Supersport race was where Ian Hutchinson claimed his maiden TT win. Now with the AIM Yamaha team, Hutchy may struggle to repeat that success in the four-lap race. He was forced to retire from Saturday’s Superbike race and only managed the 14th fastest Supersport practice lap.
It was once again Farquhar, this time on the Harker ZX6 who topped the practice times, with a best average speed of 122.915mph. However, Anstey and McGuinness only trailed him by a few tenths of a second.
Steve Plater and Keith Amor, who took the fourth and fifth fastest practice times, will be hoping for good results, while many fans will be keeping an eye on Mats Nilsson, who enjoyed a tremendous practice session.
