Biography

Another World Champion, Phil Read made the progression to the TT races after winning the 1960 Senior Manx Grand Prix. On his very first attempt, he won the 1961 Junior Race on a Norton. A third place on a Gilera in the 1963 Senior and a second place on an AJS in the 1964 Junior was his best results in those years and it wasn’t until he joined Yamaha in 1965 that he got back to his winning ways. Two Lightweight and three 125cc race wins put him back on the top step of the podium. Read stopped competing in the TT in 1973, but decided to make a comeback in 1977 and won the TT Formula 1 and Senior Races. He is undoubtedly one of the all time greats in the world of motorcycle sport with a career spanning over 25 years and no less than eight World Championship titles to his credit.
